- Four hour hand-building session.
- Four hour glazing session in the following weeks.
- My whole studio is at your disposal, use all the tools and materials you need.
- I'll be there, possibly making something alongside you, helping every step of the way.
- You'll be in my cozy purpose-built studio with heating, air conditioning, hot water, music, and a computer for finding inspiration.
- While she isn't allowed in the studio, there's a good chance you'll meet my little pup Molly.
While I'll do my absolute best to ensure your work is made in such a way that it doesn't explode, we are still at the mercy of the kiln gods. If
your project does blow up or crack badly, we'll figure out what happened together and you can have another crack (ahem) at it!
Here's what you'll need to bring:
- Clothes you don't mind getting a bit mucky; everything should wash off but I'd suggest nothing fancy or wooly.
- If you wear rings or jewelry on your wrists, I'd suggest somewhere to store them temporarily. They'll get covered in clay and rings can make tears in your work!
- Inspiration! A few photographs on your phone is ideal. It can be stressful if you wait until you get here to decide. Most people make creatures,
trinkets, mugs, and bowls.
- Any extra drinks you might enjoy. I have tea, coffee, and water on hand - and usually some soft drinks - but you're welcome to bring anything. Wine pairs
nicely with a clay evening!
And some rules!
- Minimum age 16, or 18 if not accompanied by an adult. A lot of the tools are sharp and quite a few of the materials can be a bit dangerous.
- Always wash your hands in the studio sink; it has a clay trap to stop my drains filling with clay!
- Listen to my little safety briefing, we want to keep dust to an absolute minimum.
- I'll only fire work when you've followed my instruction and advice; if your piece explodes, it can ruin other people's work too.
- Please don't touch the kiln, it will never be active when people are present, but I'm the only person who should be opening it.
